Council for Relationships Announces New Chief Executive Officer
Philadelphia – July 8, 2013 – Council for Relationships (CFR), a non-profit counseling, research and education center that provides services for individuals, couples, children and families in the Greater Philadelphia area, announced today that Amy Friedlander has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective July 15, 2013. Ms. Friedlander replaces Dr. Stephen R. Treat, senior staff therapist, who has served as interim CEO of CFR since December 2012.
Ms. Friedlander comes to CFR with 25 years of experience in the health care sector. Most recently, she served as a Managing Director of Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), a large non-profit public health institute that works to create and sustain healthier communities. In this role at PHMC, she built and oversaw Management Services, a department of 80 employees with an annual budget totaling approximately $50 million, and handled a portfolio of projects that involved strategic planning, board development, program planning and consulting for community mental health centers and other nonprofit organizations. During her time at PHMC, she successfully generated $100 million in grant writing efforts.
Ms. Friedlander holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University, and a Nonprofit Executive Leadership Certificate from Bryn Mawr College.
“Throughout her career, Amy has fostered outstanding relationships within her organization, her industry, the city and state,” Chairman Reid Blynn stated. “She brings extensive contacts, administrative and leadership skills to the position. This natural evolution in her career comes at a good time for CFR as we seek to broaden our institutional relationships, strengthen our internal organization and chart a course for the future.”
"I am humbled by the opportunity to lead an organization with such a long and auspicious history of providing high quality clinical services, training, and education,” said Ms. Friedlander. “The Council staff and board are poised to collaborate with me to grow successful programs and services in order to increase our organizational impact. We are already thinking ahead to the Council's 90th anniversary in 2022 and how my skills and expertise can position CFR to continue its important tradition of service in the region."
