My View: The Building Brotherhood Mural

April 28, 2016

I greatlBuildingBrotherhoodMuraly appreciate being able to see this mural, entitled Building Brotherhood, from my desk at the University City office of Council for Relationships.  An article about it in WestPhillyLocal.com explains that it “was designed to inspire males of color to build supportive relationships with one another as a mechanism for coping with – and overcoming – the hardships they face in society, often in regards to accessing education, jobs, and behavioral health services.”  To me, it embodies what Council for Relationships represents in terms of understanding that everyone needs and benefits from strong relationships and we all deserve access to high-quality mental health services.  The mural inspires me every time I look at it and I thank the artists, the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, and the City’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS) for bringing it to our neighborhood.
