Dr. Emily Hartshorne Mudd Award Reception
June 14 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm| $150 - $10000
The Dr. Emily Hartshorne Mudd Award is given to recognize significant contributions to the quality of family life in our region. With this intention, Council for Relationships will be presenting the 2017 Dr. Emily Hartshorne Mudd Award to Dr. Bhavna Shyamalan and the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation at a celebratory reception on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.
Bhavna Shyamalan and the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation have helped young people and families both locally and globally. Local efforts in some of Philadelphia’s high-poverty neighborhoods have helped families and children with a special focus on educational and social support. The Foundation has partnered with Alejandro Gac-Artigas in his work with low-income Philadelphia families in addition to tackling issues of education, nutrition, trafficking and water access across the world. With her background in clinical developmental psychology, Dr. Shyamalan has applied a holistic approach to helping individuals and communities by identifying effective leaders and partners for the Foundation’s efforts. We are very pleased to honor them with the 2017 Dr. Emily Hartshorne Mudd Award.
This award is named after our founder, Dr. Emily Harstshorne Mudd, who founded Council for Relationships in 1932 as The Marriage Council of Philadelphia. She was a nationally recognized marriage and family therapist and a dedicated champion of women’s rights. This award was created to honor her legacy and is given to an individual whose contributions toward improving family life in our region are unprecedented. The community leaders whom we seek to recognize are agents of change, generators of connectivity, and true partners on the very human journey towards wholeness, personal growth and development. They profoundly shape our community in groundbreaking proportions.
This reception will host guests from the greater Philadelphia region and features an open bar and hors d’oeuvres. Proceeds from this event will be split between the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation and Council for Relationships in our mission to provide counseling services to all those in need, regardless of ability to pay.
