Workshop Description

Suicide postvention is described as a form of prevention for those who have been affected by a suicide loss.  With the increase in suicide among our military and veteran population, families are left in the aftermath to cope with the trauma and complex grief of suicide bereavement.  This workshop will draw on the presenter’s knowledge and experience as a grief researcher and clinician who has worked and studied suicide bereavement in military and veteran families for the past decade.  The workshop will also describe the remarkable pathways of healing that suicide loss survivors can travel.

This interactive workshop will include lecture, group & class discussion, case presentation, and audio-visual presentation. Topics will include:

  • Suicide Facts and Figures (Civilian, Military, Veteran); framing the topic
  • Unique Issues Influencing Suicide Bereavement – How is Suicide Grief Different? Military and Veteran Influencing Issues
  • Suicide Postvention as Prevention; Interventional strategies in working with individuals bereaved by suicide.

Workshop Level – Intermediate
