Topic: Sexual Health, Aging, and Chronic Illness

Level of Difficulty: Intermediate

Presenter: Alishia Kalos, PsyD

Description: Sexual health and intimacy are core elements of the human experience, and most people will encounter challenges with sexual health at some point during their lifespan. Workshop participants will learn how to support clients as they face normative sexual changes or difficulties due to aging and chronic illness.

Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this workshop, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify some of the normative changes that accompany aging for men and women
  2. List physical and psychological factors that contribute to sexual issues with aging
  3. Evaluate personal/clinical biases related to sexuality of older adults
  4. Discuss 1 to 3 cancer related sexuality changes that may accompany aging

About the Presenter: 


Alishia Kalos, PsyD, CST is a licensed clinical psychologist and staff clinician at Council for Relationships who specializes in sex and relationship therapy. She is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and specializes in addressing sexual and relational concerns such as intimacy, communication, desire, arousal, satisfaction, pain, relationship contract negotiation, unusual sexual interests, and sexual behavior challenges. She also has specialized experience working with individuals/couples managing cancer, major health-related changes, or chronic illness.

Council for Relationships is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Council for Relationships maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
