Fees
As a nonprofit committed to providing high-quality therapy for all, our fee structure is unique.
What Determines the Cost of Therapy?
The cost of therapy is often based on the experience and education of the therapist.
- Student Interns: Student interns are in the final stages of their training to become a therapist. They are closely supervised by expert clinicians and receive ongoing feedback, consultation, and training.
- Pre-Licensed Clinician: A pre-licensed clinician has completed their education and is working towards licensure. To be licensed, pre-licensed clinicians must complete between 3,000 and 5,000 hours of work as a therapist, depending on the license and state. This can take up to 5 years. Pre-licensed clinicians work under the supervision of more experienced clinicians.
- Licensed Clinician: A licensed clinician has completed both their education and their 3,000-5,000 hours of clinical work and any relevant licensing exams. Although it is no longer required, many licensed clinicians still work under supervision. They are required to participate in ongoing training.
- PhD/PsyD: Licensed Clinical Psychologists hold a doctoral degree in psychology and have completed advanced clinical training and supervision in providing therapy.
- Psychiatrist: Psychiatrists are medical practitioners who hold an MD or D.O. in Psychiatry. They can consult within their area of expertise and prescribe medication. Many psychiatrists are also practicing psychotherapists.
- Other Specialties: Sessions with some clinicians may cost more because the clinician has special training in a particular area, such as DBT, EMDR or sex therapy.
Sliding Scale Rate
Clinicians who offer a sliding scale may be able to work with you to be seen for a lower price. If a clinician offers a sliding scale, you can ask during your consultation whether they have appointments available at lower rates for sliding-scale clients. In general, sliding-scale appointments are offered based on availability and need.
Clinicians who do not have a sliding scale have one fixed rate for appointments.

Payment Methods
Payment is due at the time of service. We accept check, credit card, HSA (Health Savings Account), and HCFSA (Health Care Flexible Spending Account).
Insurance
CFR is currently out-of-network with all insurance providers. Many insurance plans, however, will reimburse some portion of out-of-network mental health treatment costs. CFR will provide you with the documentation you need to get partial or full reimbursement, provided that your plan covers those services.
Call the number on the back of your insurance card to verify your benefits by asking the following:
- What is my coverage for out-of-network mental healthcare? Below are some commonly used billing codes. Please ask your provider to confirm the correct code.
- 90791 for intake with a therapist
- 90792 for intake with a psychiatrist
- 90834 for 90837 for individual therapy
- 90847 for family therapy
- What is my deductible that needs to be met before I would receive reimbursement for these services?
- Do you cover telehealth services (for those seeking online therapy)?
If your insurance company requires additional information about the provider or treatment, please contact your clinician.
Low-Fee Therapy
CFR interns provide therapy for $20 to $90 per hour. Fees are set based on income and no one is turned away due to financial limitations. Low-fee sessions are intended to provide access to counseling for those who aren’t able to otherwise afford it. If there is a waiting list for services, verification of income may be required.
