Our Clinical Interns are experienced in working with a variety of genders, sexualities, cultures, races, and religions.

Working with CFR Clinical Interns

CFR’s Clinical Interns are closely supervised by senior level CFR Staff Therapists.

They meet with supervisors for several hours each week to discuss their work and to review recordings of their sessions. CFR believes that clients receive the best treatment from their interns when their sessions are recorded and viewed in supervision. Interns discuss this option with all of their clients, who can then opt out if they choose. Recordings are treated with the utmost care, protected as required by law, and deleted following review in supervision.

Clients seeking Low Cost Therapy Services work with CFR Clinical Interns who are enrolled in one of two programs:

  1. Clinical Internships: Students in our Masters Level Student Internship program are pursuing continued education in the Mental Health field. Many already have professional experience before enrolling in the program.
  2. The Postgraduate Certificate Program in Marriage and Family Therapy is one of the nation’s premier training programs for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). Three tracks are offered: Clinical, Clergy, and Sex Therapy. Most students in this program have prior experience as social workers, case managers, or other mental health professionals. Our Postgraduate Certificate Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

Relationship Checkups

Your relationship doesn’t have to be in trouble for you to benefit from couples therapy.

CFR’s Clinical Interns are trained and approved by the Gottman Institute to deliver the Gottman Relationship Checkup.

This relationship assessment tool relies on 40 years of research by the most respected couples therapists in the field. The Relationship Checkup is designed to guide couples to explore their unique strengths and challenges.

About Systemic Therapy

CFR is a nationally recognized training institution for marriage and family therapists.

At CFR we have provided treatment to thousands of individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds and facing a wide variety of challenges. Our extensive experience and research shows that often the therapy process can be helped when other family members or loved ones are included.

Our therapy process begins with developing a customized treatment plan and goals. When we think it is clinically appropriate, we may ask you to consider inviting a family member or loved one into your therapy. We operate under a collaborative model in which the therapist and client work together to attain client goals.

Fees

We offer a sliding fee scale based on income.

CFR Clinical Interns provide low cost therapy options to couples, families, and individuals at $20 to $90 per hour. Interns are closely supervised by licensed clinicians on CFR’s senior Staff Therapists. Low cost therapy sessions are intended to provide access to counseling for those who are not able to otherwise afford it. Fees are set based on income and no one is turned away due to financial limitations. If there is a waiting list for services, verification of income may be required.
