September 25 Summit to Include Legislative Policy Hearing

The Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, College of Education and Human Development, is a co-sponsor of Disability Summit 2025, scheduled for Thursday, September 25 at Temple University’s Howard Gittis Student Center on Main Campus.

Change: reviewing the impact of past and present changes in law and policy on the community

Challenge: developing tools and skills to overcome obstacles to equality and self-determination for the disability community

Celebrate: recognizing the diversity of lived experiences for people with disabilities and lifting up their leadership for all of society


Disability Summit 2025 Features

  • Keynote speaker Emily Voorde, Founder of Into Strategies, on leadership development in the disability community
  • Luncheon speaker Kim Musheno, Senior Director of Medicaid Policy, The Arc of the United States, on the impact of federal Medicaid cuts
  • Panels: Self-Directed Autism Service, Assistive Technology for Our Whole Lives, Leadership Development, and Raising Your Voice for Positive Change
  • Legislative Policy Hearing: Legislators from the Policy Committee of the Democratic House Caucus will review the report and recommendations of the Pennsylvania Tech Accelerator and draft legislation for Technology First initiatives that seek to improve accessibility to state government services for all members of the disability community

Accessibility

The summit location provides barrier-free entrances, wheelchair-accessible spaces and restrooms, and quiet spaces. Keynote sessions will be live captioned (CART); other sessions will include auto-generated captions. ASL interpreters will be on site. The registration form may be used to request other accommodations.
