Akilah Pierre, a marriage and family therapist, is a doctoral student at the Center for Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University. Ms. Pierre earned her Master’s Degree from Council for Relationships and Thomas Jefferson University’s Couple and Family Therapy Program where she specialized in Sex Therapy. She has over five years of experience working with adolescents and adults in nonprofit organizations, including the Health Federation of Philadelphia and Public Health Management Corporation. Ms. Pierre is a culturally competent therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families of all backgrounds. She incorporates elements from Bowen Family System Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Narrative Therapy to develop an intersystem approach to healing.

Ms. Pierre helps her clients recognize their strengths and potential, create and accomplish their therapeutic goals, enhance self-esteem and self-worth, improve their relationships, and develop coping skills to manage life stressors. Ms. Pierre’s areas of expertise include the following: managing anxiety, intergenerational conflict resolution, lack of sexual desire, improving couples’ communication, rebuilding trust, enhancing intimacy in relationships, and healing from trauma.
