One of the most powerful experiences a person can have is sitting across from another human being and feeling understood. In my work, I have embraced an integration of Psychodynamic and Systems therapies. I seek to understand the impact of the client’s unconscious wishes and drives, identify the coping strategies that they have available to them, and help them understand the interpersonal impact of their symptoms and systemic contributions to the development and worsening of their presenting problems. From there, we can embark on a journey of positive change that includes learning new skills for effective coping and improving their quality of life. I emphasize the role of the client as the expert in their world and therapy as a collaboration. Often, this requires flexibility in my use of techniques. I have experience and training in Psychodynamic, Systems, Exposure, and Acceptance and Commitment therapies.
Did I choose psychology, or did it choose me? My particular niches are trauma, law, and the military. I was raised in a community that celebrated the richness of culture and beauty in diversity while systemic changes stripped away businesses and programs for community development. Seeing the impact of such policies on mental health and a sense of agency, I took an active interest in empowering others, especially those in underserved and/or poorly served communities. I was also raised within the military culture: my mother, grandfather, and several other family members are veterans; some of my earliest memories are attending functions with members of my mother’s unit; I served in the Air Force National Guard; and I later returned to do contract work providing psychological services at a joint base. When not practicing psychology, I’m engaging in self-care, spending time with friends and family, working out, engaging my inner foodie, and traveling.
I am licensed in Pennsylvania and PSYPACT-authorized for inter-jurisdictional telepsychology. I am open to seeing clients who reside in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Clients interested in connecting with me for therapy should request an appointment using the contact form on the CFR website or calling CFR directly.
